it's a stress and I am a mess

Coming into this class I did not know what to expect and that is still how I am feeling. I am extremely overwhelmed. I have never had a class that asks this much of me in regards to assignments that add to a bigger picture. There are a lot of things in this class that I have never heard of such as NCTCS and CLC. I believe this is because I am a music student and my focus for that side of my degree is completely different. This makes me feel like I am at a disadvantage. Also since I have been working at Disney for the past 8 months transitioning back to school has been difficult for me.In addition to this, technology is not my best friend. I need to work on getting better at using these tools as this class is dependable on it.  All I can do is make sure I am paying attention and asking questions so that I don't miss anything.

  1. I agree that this class has a lot of assignments to complete. It is also asking a lot out of us as students. I have three, 400 level history courses and our Edu 316 class has more assignments than all three of those classes this semester. I also have no idea what a CLC is either. Hopefully we both learn by the end of the semester. Other than that we have a great teacher and she is passionate about education.

  2. Katie,
Be glad that you are not alone in your feelings, I think we all feel slightly overwhelmed. It is definitely different trying to figure out what works for different teachers and different courses! The good news is that our mission statement holds us accountable to be "encouraging and motivating" towards one another!

We are in this together and we will certainly need to help each other out once in a while. I am pretty good at being organized, so if you have a question about when things are due or what is expected of us, feel free to let me know. I will probably be doing the same towards you at some points!

  3. It's so nice to know that I'm not the only one feeling out of place in the education department. Because education is just my minor, I'm not required to take all of the classes that the majors are required to take and coming in to upper level classes, I'm usually lost and have never heard any of the terms they frequently throw out. I'm glad that Dr. Clark is so dedicated to US learning and growing and not just getting through the curriculum.

As for being overwhelmed, girl, you got this! Our classmates seem very nice and helpful and I know I'm always willing to help out! (I may have a touch of OCD so if you need some organization help, I gotcha!) Just keep telling yourself, "I got this" throughout the semester and you'll do great!

  4. Katie,
You are going to be fine. You are not at a disadvantage, because most of this class is in the same boat with not knowing the terms I'm using. In fact, CLC's are my terminology, although the building of a learning community is not a new idea. It's just new to you. I'm looking forward to reading about your learning as the semester progresses.
